From Monday 20th to Friday 31st May 2024 the Hobbyist Socio-Cultural Club with the patronage of the Municipality of San Giorgio su Legnano is organizing the photographic exhibition “Bova, between history and legends”, a Calabrian reality.

Bova was not born by chance in the mountains of Aspromonte, but is the result of continuous adaptations of men to the fights, invasions, sieges and devastations that have occurred in past centuries, but also to the ability to adapt to a difficult environment, such as mountain.

Bova is today considered the “capital of Greek culture of Calabria” which includes the area of the so-called “Greek-speaking” localities. Beyond the facts and misdeeds, such a long historical past could not fail to leave traces in the collective imagination, thus some legends flourish about the origins of the city or its secrets:
– a first states that Bova was founded by an Armenian Queen who, having landed along the coast, went back inland, establishing her residence on the top of the Bova hill;
– a second speaks of the “Queen’s Footprint” stating that if a girl’s foot had matched perfectly with that of the Queen, the rock would have opened revealing the guarded treasure;
– finally the third states that on a boulder, among the ruins of the old castle, the footprint of a woman’s foot is still visible, which legend attributes to Countess Matilde of Canossa, who had received the castle from Pope Gregory VII . If the footprint corresponded to that of a girl, she would have discovered that she descended from the Countess’s family.

The exhibition will be held in the Atrium of the Municipality of San Giorgio su Legnano, in Piazza IV Novembre 7, and will be freely open to visitors on the days and times the Municipal Offices are open to the public until the end of May.
