Almost a month has passed since the end of the Eccellenza championship and all is still quiet at Gela for the new season.
No official note from the company, but only many rumors that follow one another daily, with some leads that seem more concrete than others. On Monday afternoon, a meeting took place between the two presidents Marco Scerra and Maurizio Melfa, a meeting – from what transpires – useful only to resolve some situations linked to last season, without addressing the future issue, even if the positions always seem to be the same ones, with Melfa increasingly towards exiting the biancazzurro project.
These are the methods that are causing the official announcement to be delayed, with the entrepreneur who seems to be holding the “snitch” of the game in his hand. Failure to resolve this situation, which will lead to the end of the failed merger, slows down the entire Dolphin machine.
It is no longer a mystery that contacts have been initiated with Canicattì for the transfer of the Serie D title, talks carried out by Marco Scerra and the former Gela FC managers: it is a complicated operation, but not impossible, which will still require several days to have a definitive outcome.
If the Serie D operation does not go through, Gela’s goal will be to aim for a top championship in the next Eccellenza, with the sporting director Alessandro Bonaffini (in the picture) waiting for the definitive ok to start moving on the team front, with the market objectives which would obviously change based on the category in which Gela will find themselves at the starting line. Meanwhile, another team that is certain of participating in the next Serie D is Paternò, which won the Coppa Italia Eccellenza, beating Solbiatese 1-0 in the final.
The Eccellenza group B playoffs start on Sunday 19 May, with the match between Jonica and Milazzo. The winner will face Modica. Thus the regrets at the Biancazzurri increase, having ended the season close to the promotion play-off zone.
