GROSSETO – The first public meeting of the citizen committee “No to the transfer of CeMiVet horses” took place on Monday 13 May at the “Il Sole Foundation”.

«Created to give voice to all citizens who consider the downsizing of the Military Veterinary Center in via Castiglionese to be unfair – explains a note from the group -, the committee aims to keep alive one of the oldest structures in Maremma. The CeMiVet (also known as the “Quadruped Collection Centre”) was in fact established in 1870 and today it is the main equine breeding center of the Italian Army. The CeMiVet of Grosseto, thanks to the highly qualified veterinary group and the present structure, is autonomous in the fertilization of the receiving mares, who are monitored and accompanied for all the months of gestation until giving birth, the foals are then not only raised, handled and tamed up to three years of age, to then be assigned to the armed forces for institutional representation and competitive sports duties”.

«The center is also a resource which – as the promoters of the committee maintain – gives impetus to the local economy and the development of the territory, it should therefore be valorised and not downsized or transferred elsewhere».

The creation of the Committee was followed by other initiatives aimed at giving space and voice to citizens by encouraging public debate. The committee’s Facebook page was born https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61559381445603, it is also possible to sign a petition on the change.org platform.

Between Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May, in the entrance area on the Decathlon side of the Maremá shopping center we will be present with an area equipped for information and collecting signatures.
