MONREALE, 18 May – The awards ceremony for the “La Famiglia, mio massimo” competition, now in its fourth edition, took place yesterday in the premises of the Agnese Piraino-Leto-Borsellino complex of the Guglielmo II school.

The school, as usual, wanted to pay homage to its colleague Mimma, a teacher in the past at the school by participating.
The competition, in fact, born 4 years ago on the initiative of the Ferrara family, is aimed at third grade secondary school classes in which not only Guglielmo II but also Margherita di Navarra and the San Giuseppe Jato-San Cipirello school participated .

Taking part in the ceremony were the school director of Guglielmo Irene Bornelli, Patrizia Roccamatisi, director of Margherita di Navarra, Sebastiano Passarello and Giuseppina Maisano representing the San Giuseppe Jato-San Cipirello school, as well as some teachers from the schools involved, the awarded students and their families.
The brother, notary Filippo Ferrara, and other relatives of the deceased teacher were present and awarded the children after reading the most significant passages of the individual works chosen.
The notary Ferrara underlined the importance of a theme such as the family, which, although no longer simply understood as the traditional nucleus composed of father, mother and children, but being able to take on different forms, still constitutes the basic cell, the central nucleus of the society, a privileged place for participation and sharing of joys, problems, but also suffering.

Among the works that each institute sent, the Ferrara family decided to reward three for each school which particularly focused on the theme of the family as support in moments of difficulty, as a safe haven in which to take refuge to find comfort in sad moments or rejoice in happy moments.
The school director Irene Bornelli, who welcomed the initiative of participating in this competition, also underlined the importance of encouraging moments like these in which young people can expose their feelings and express their emotions, recognize them and verbalize them: a task of school, in fact, is also to educate in the expression of positive feelings and emotions, to prevent the social discomfort generated by the risk of emotional illiteracy.

Between one award ceremony and another, the children of classes IV A and IV B of primary school and the children of classes 1E, 1F, 3E and 3F of lower secondary school cheered those in attendance with some songs. The primary school students were guided by the teacher Debora Saverino, the secondary school students by Prof. Rosangela Portera and Prof. Francesca Sala. The performances were enjoyed and the participants responded with warm applause. The awarded students were Alice Curcio, Cecilia Namio and Jolanda Silvestri, who received a certificate and a cash prize.
The school director Irene Bornelli concluded the ceremony by thanking the Ferrara family for the value of the initiative which allows us to renew the memory of Domenica Ferrara and make it known to the new generations.
