At Scogliolungo the XVI lateen sail fisherman’s regatta

Six boats at the starting line to celebrate the XVI Fisherman’s Regatta, opening event of the Festha Manna in Porto Torres, organized by the AssoVeLa association, in collaboration with the Etnos Li Bainzini association, one of the city’s identity initiatives which, in the past , lived mainly from fishing. Tomorrow, Saturday 18 May from 10.30 am, the strictly rigged boats with lateen sails will meet in the Scogliolungo harbor and, without any technological tools, they will be pushed into the sea with vigorous rowing up to the fishing area where the fishermen will leave the equipment which is later recovered .

Three joint tests for the six participating units, five from Porto Torres and one from Stintino, such as “Gruviera” by Andrea Fiori, “Capo Amato” by Pietro Fois, “Sara” by Francesco Sannino, “San Vincenzo II” by Vincenzo Greco, “Maschjarana” of the Municipality of Stintino and “Teresa” of Gianfranco Rivieccio. There are five phases of the route: departure, fishing, sailing route, recovery and return. A route explained by Lorenzo Nuvoli, manager of AssoVela, to the participants, who will have to respect certain common sense rules, in order to avoid incurring possible disqualification. The event represents the most demanding regatta for lateen sailing boats, a race that aims to relive the participants and show the visitors a day of sea, sun and effort. typical of the island fishermen who, every morning, set out to sea to bring home the fruit of their labor.
