Bee Day, honey as a snack for 13 thousand school students in the Marche region on May 20th. Here is the project of the four beekeeping consortia of the Marche region united under the “Marche di Miele” brand. There are approximately 13 thousand students from the Marche region who participate in “Miele a Merenda”, the four-year-old project Beekeeping consortia of the Marche region aimed at primary schools in the regional territory to raise awareness of honey, its qualities as well as the precious role played by bees for our lives and for the entire planet. On the occasion of World Bee Day, next May 20th, schools are planning an educational session on bees, in particular on the importance of their role as pollinators, on the types of honey and their use.

World Day

World Bee Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017, was created, in fact, to raise public awareness of the importance of bees for the ecosystem as well as their fundamental contribution to sustainable development. The project was shared with Donatella D’amico, general director of the regional school office, who made the involvement of the schools possible.

Quality local products

The project is financed by the regional call for access to the benefits provided for by the “Marche Region beekeeping subprogramme 2023/2027″, beekeeping year 2024-Reg. (EU) 2021/2115. «With the “Miele a Merenda” project – declare the four presidents of the beekeeping consortia (Frederic Oliva, Giovanni Zucconi, Alvaro Caramanti, Sergio Cocciarini) – we bring honey from the Marche to the schools of the Marche, to introduce young students to the local production of quality, through the various shades of color and flavor due to the vegetation present in the area and the harvest period, but above all we want to convey an important message on how much bees represent for biodiversity, nutrition and health”.

Four consortia

On this day, the four beekeeping consortia will provide the participating schools with an educational video that tells the story of the life of bees, from the apiary to the jar, an illustrative booklet also translated into English on the main types of Marche honey, which also tells the stages of the path of the four beekeeping consortia united under the “Marche di Miele” brand with the aim of promoting Marche honeys and disseminating the importance of the environmental, agricultural, occupational and social role of beekeeping. The project involves the distribution of wildflower honey under the Marche di Miele brand in all schools, closed in single-dose sachets, which every child can spread on bread for a healthy and tasty snack at the end of the day. Honey is a natural food, rich in nutritional properties, with countless uses and can be used daily both as a sweetener and as an ingredient in cooking. Honey also contains beneficial properties for health, including antibacterial and antibiotic properties. This educational moment on honey takes place within the educational path undertaken by each school on topics such as healthy eating, outdoor education, environment and sustainability. Making known the quality of honey from the Marche region, certified and safe and produced by beekeepers from the Marche region, is the objective of the four beekeeping consortia of the Marche region, which have created a new brand: “Marche di Miele” which identifies the production of honey made in Marche 100 % from beekeepers in the Marche region. With the Marche di Miele brand, beekeeping companies in the Marche region are concretely committed to promoting the quality of local honeys thanks to specific production standards set out in specific regulations.
