PALERMO – The delicate legal matter ends with a long period of testing of the four defendants. All very young. One was accused of sexual assault against a peer. The other three, one male and two females, of disseminating pedophile pornographic material.
The victim was filmed performing oral sex in the street and the video was shot in chat with other friends.
It is an ugly story faced by the Juvenile Court presided over by Nicola Aiello, before whom the lawyers of the defendants and the public prosecutor Francesco Grassi appeared. They had an agreement that aims to recover the protagonists.
They will have to follow a course of 18 months (for those responding to sexual violence) and 10 months (for others) between commitment to a voluntary association and sessions with doctors to understand the mistake made.
One night two years ago the boys – they attend different high schools and are between 16 and 17 years old – I am in an area of the historic center of Palermo, between via Maqueda and corso Vittorio Emanuele. The boy with whom she had sexual intercourse, in the hidden corner of a small square full of people, he defends himself by claiming that the victim was consenting. According to the prosecution, however, would have taken advantage of the minor’s drunken condition.
The approach of the Prosecutor’s Office led by Claudia Caramanna was clear: help the protagonists understand the negative value of their actions: from sex in the street to images shared on WhatsApp with the cell phone which is once again used as an offshoot of the body.
Something only exists if it is shown. And the desire to show off dictates the actions. Images become a weapon, one of the most dangerous of modern times.
