Mastini, the coach is here! Gaber Glavic is from Varese: “Winning mentality”

The first piece of the puzzle. Greeted coach Niklas Czarnecki, the sporting director Matteo Malfatti had explicitly confirmed that the new project would start from the technical guide and so it was: Gaber Glavic is the new coach of the Mastiffs.

The Slovenian born in ’78 he already knows Italian hockey indirectly given that in recent seasons it has been theHead Coach of Jesenice (ALPS Hockey League), but has never coached outside Slovenia. Even as a player (except for a couple of parentheses in Sweden and Germany) he has always played in his homeland, defending the cage also in EBEL (current ICE Hockey League).

Nonetheless it responds to the identikit of young and motivated coachwhich is ready to To make grow (and grow together) the yellow-black project following the basic approach outlined in the 2023/24 season. Once the coach has been made official, at this point, it is legitimate to wait until usual rain of confirmations and new entries: the feeling is that a large part of the team block will remain, but inevitably there will be additions and, as always, the foreign issue will take center stage. From practice (as happened last year) at least one amount could be selected by the coach, while the other should be chosen by the club. Communications on this matter are expected in the next few days. but in the meantime the Mastiffs can get to know their new leader.

This is the statement from the yellow and black club.

Gaber Glavic is one of the most popular coaches and comes from Jesenice, in whose team he is a sort of “talisman”, as well as for his country, Slovenia. With the national team he participated in 11 World Cups (as a player and as a member of the technical staff) and defended the Slovenian cage numerous times, being a former goalkeeper. As a coach he never moved from his hometown, but he also held various roles in the national team, including that of goalkeeping coach and assistant coach. In the same way, even in the club team he was able to adapt, to the point of becoming permanent Head Coach, leading the Slovenian Jesenice team to win the Alps Hockey League championship in 2023, the same one where some Italian teams play today. Furthermore, he also participated in international competitions. Glavic, born in 1978, is described as an experienced person, capable of transmitting energy and new stimuli. These qualities have allowed him to build a mentality that he would like to impart to the team. From the players he demands attention and physical preparation which must be of a high level, in order to be able to be athletically ready to play the matches. The system that has distinguished Glavic in recent years includes fast skating and control of the puck, essential elements to be able to “create” play and establish the desired rhythm during the match. Each member should know their role, each player will need to know exactly what to do. He would like to see a team that entertains and enjoys playing, without ever losing sight of the final objective. With this choice strongly supported by the club, Varese is proud to have, once again, a high-level coach. Here are the first words of Gaber Glavic: “First of all tnx for the opportunity here in Varese. Carlo and Matteo are very positive people. Since I was a kid, I remember Varese as a famous Italian team. In the past a lot of outstanding players and coaches were part of this city! With high ambitions, winning mentality and super fans it was not hard joining mastino family”. The President Carlo Bino expresses his joy for this new arrival on the yellow-black bench: “We are very happy and proud of this choice. We really wanted a high profile coach with great experience at international and club level. A coach who has already won in higher leagues such as the ALPS Hockey League and who will certainly give Varese added value. The entire movement will also benefit from this. Welcome Gaber to the yellow and black family.”
