Fiumicino airport arrives in the center of Rome where passengers, from today, will be able to check in and check in their hold baggage at no additional cost at Rome Termini station, and then collect it directly at their destination. It’s the great news offered by “Airport in the City”, the new off-airport check-in service of Aeroporti di Romawhich, starting today, allows ITA Airways passengers departing from the “Leonardo da Vinci”, to be able to carry out check-in operations free of charge in the city centre, including the acceptance of hold baggage, on the same day of their departure, and to be able to comfortably continue their visit to the capital before the flight. Travelers can complete the check-in process and leave their hold luggage at Rome Termini – the largest station in Italy and one of the largest stations in Europe which counts around 200 million visits every year, included in the Grandi network Retail stations – at least three and a half hours before the flight departure time, every day from Monday to Sunday from 8:00 to 16:00, and then collect them directly at the final destination airport.
The official inauguration of “Airport in the City” at Rome Termini station was attended today by the top management of ADR, the CEO Marco Troncone and the President Vincenzo Nunziata; Antonino TuricchiPresident of ITA Airways; Pierluigi Di Palma ENAC President; Fabrizio Ghera, Regional Councilor of Lazio; Angelo Camilli, President of Unindustria. The work concluded with the intervention of Minister for Tourism Daniela Santanchè.
With the launch of this new one-of-a-kind service, Rome Fiumicino airport, among only 12 5-star Skytrax airports in the world, recently awarded by the same organization as the best airport overall for airport security procedures, consolidates its its position as the best airport in Europe among those with over 40 million passengers, awarded in mid-March by ACI World for the seventh consecutive year for the quality of the services offered to passengers. Technical partner of the initiative is OACISan international player active for years in various airports around the world in the off-airport check-in service and which, with over a million bags successfully managed and transferred, provides ADR, a Mundys group company, with fundamental support in terms of know-how and organization of processes.
For the initial testing period, “Airport in the City” is exclusively dedicated to travelers with ITA Airways flights departing on the same day from the “Leonardo da Vinci” to any destination (except USA and Israel). In this way, those who want to enjoy the last hours of their stay in Rome will be able to do so free of their hold luggage and without having to use paid temporary storage facilities. Other airlines may join this new service in the future.
