The two thefts which occurred during the night against as many businesses in the Murattiano center of Bari, respectively against the La Pupetta bakery in via Cairoli and a gift shop in via Abate Gimma, were also commented on by some of the mayoral candidates for the next elections on 8 and 9 June.
For Fabio Romito, running with the centre-right, these episodes “show us the situation of great insecurity and anarchy in which our city lives. We must reclaim our territory and guard the streets of Bari to protect traders, citizens and a city that must return to being free and safe”.
Michele Laforgia also spoke on the topic, supported by the Left, part of the Democratic Party, M5S, Socialists, + Europe and other civic groups: “With regards to the problem of urban security, two mistakes can be made. The first is to deny that it exists and therefore you can rest assured. The second is that it is only a problem of a repressive nature. We need better control of the territory. These phenomena occur especially during the hours when the city is undefended.” For Laforgia, “better coordination between law enforcement agencies and local police” is therefore necessary.
