Lucca: worker dies crushed by machinery in a metals company in Fornaci di Barga

LUCCA – Another fatal accident at work in Tuscany. A 50-year-old worker lost his life today, 15 May 2024, in the former Kme Europa Metalli company in Fornaci di Barga, in the province of Lucca, Nicola Corti, resident in Barga, who was in the rolling mill department. The accident occurred just before 7pm.

The 118 health workers arrived on site with the ambulance but the staff were only able to confirm the death. At first it seemed that the victim had been stuck in a machine, but from subsequent reconstructions it was learned that the worker was crushed by one of the large copper coils in the department, causing him a lethal chest trauma.

The police and the ASL workplace safety technical staff also arrived at the company to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident.

Nicola Corti leaves behind his partner and a daughter. The 50-year-old worked on a continuous cycle machine with which copper or brass laminates are manufactured. The victim had worked at the Kme plant for many years and was considered expert in his tasks.
