The Cuneo Students Union intervened with a position on the events which, in recent days, have concerned the building in Corso Giolitti, home to the city’s high schools.

We went unheard for months. Some collapses occurred inside the premises of the Peano Pellico Classical-Scientific High School in Corso Giolitti.

Already in February, as the Cuneo Students’ Union, we had mobilized for building, school and transport conditions, also exposing the critical issues of the other institutes in a detailed manifesto.

Among the problems reported were missing tiles, broken bathroom doors, bathrooms in terrible condition, major cracks in the classroom walls, in short, in general the structure already needed urgent interventions.

While we focus on the external renovation of the building and its aesthetics, inside the ceilings collapse, endangering the lives of students, school collaborators and teachers.

Is this the kind of school we want? Absolutely not. The school was fined a few days ago, but the critical issues had already been highlighted in our mobilizations in November and February. The province, the ASL, and the Institute have had plenty of time to act, but only now, months and months later, are we seeing a reaction.

If the voice of the students is not heard by the institution, is not listened to by the school or by the Province, how can we expect to think that the school is a place for students?
