AstiTeatro 2024: May previews

From 13th to 29th June come back AstiTeatrothe historic national and international theater festival now in its 46th edition, organized by Municipality of Asti with the collaboration of the PATRIC Network and the support of the Piedmont Region.

It has always been dedicated to contemporary theatre, and in particular to the broad concept of new dramaturgy, expressed in different forms. In addition to the confirmation of continuity, which makes it one of the very first national festivals, it has always offered a rich program of national and regional premieres.

The Festival, renowned for its ability to bring together the most diverse and heterogeneous proposals, will also this year be directed by
Mario Nosengo, with the collaboration of Eugenio Fea, and will be preceded by several previews in May:

The extinction of the human race
PROSE
text and direction Emanuele Aldrovandi
with Giusto Cucchiarini, Eleonora Giovanardi, Luca Mammoli, Silvia Valsesia, Riccardo Vicardi
with the vocal participation of Elio De Capitani

The Extinction of the Human Race is one of the three texts selected by Eurodram 2022 (an international network of translators that selects the most suitable texts for circulation abroad in each nation), it was presented as a radio preview on Rai Radio 3 within “PRESENT/FUTURE New writings for the Italian scene”, was published on Hystrio and debuted in May 2022 at the Gobetti Theater in Turin. The show tells the story of two couples who, following a pandemic caused by a virus that transforms humans into turkeys, find themselves in the entrance hall of a building assailed by questions and fears. Their clash becomes an exorcism – cathartic and liberating – which helps us metabolize our present with irony, lucidity and a pinch of grotesque surrealism, using a tragicomic language, with sharp and tight dialogues.

The work responds to the desire to investigate the sense of restlessness that, like a specter, hovers over contemporary man immersed in the society that surrounds him, and on the inadequacy that the comparison with it produces in him. A fresco of the golden void in which we are immersed, where even those problems, which were once considered the prerogative of the younger generations, have spread like wildfire, involving age groups up to 50/60 years old: a macrogeneration “crushed” among the clichés of the contemporary, united by a sense of impotence, inadequacy, impossibility to overcome or reach the objectives imposed by the performance society, in which we are all immersed.

In LidOdyssey the adventures of the mythological journey are transformed into an internal journey to discover the limits, difficulties and paradoxes of contemporary society.

Extra events are also scheduled for May:
20-21-22 May from 10am to 5pm (with break) Spazio Kor FREE ENTRY upon reservation
(maximum 10 participants)
Workshops “The dance of the villas” (for Gisellə show)

The dance and digital workshop aims to use the body as a means of expression to narrate the story of the Villi: legendary supernatural evil creatures who, to take revenge on their unfaithful lover, force him to participate in an infernal dance that will leave him lifeless. Choreographer Nyko Piscopo will work with a group of dancers, ex-dancers or dance enthusiasts over 50 to create a video project that will be included in the Gisellə show produced by the Cornelia company. The workshop will be divided into two training days (20 and 21 May), with the company’s artists, on gesture and expressive body in relation to multimedia support and one day (22 May) of video shooting and interviews with the videomaker Andrea De Simone. The documentation of this brief creative process will be presented in “documentary” format at Spazio Kor on May 24th.

PCTO project laboratory returns “Asti Teatro Ragazzi… saudade between past and future”

High school students in Asti were offered an opportunity for creative and artistic experience, aggregation and meeting with professional artists. Bringing girls and boys on stage makes protagonists a part of citizens who experience the theater only as spectators. This allows them to get to know the festival in depth and to see theater from a different point of view, involving them in three different workshop activities: prose (with (Eugenio Fea Bosia, actor, director and theater trainer), musicals (with Fabrizio Rizzolo , actor, director, singer and author) and dance theater (with Walter Cinquinella, dancer, director and choreographer).

11am “Romeo d’amore” – return of Walter Cinquinella’s dance theater workshop
3.30 pm “Martyrs” – return of the prose workshop by Eugenio Fea Bosia
9.30 pm “You only die once” – return of Fabrizio Rizzolo’s musical workshop
