awarded the 33 million euro contract

BRINDISI – The tender for the construction of the Brindisi intermodal hub of the Italian railway network has been awarded. The work went to the group of companies made up of Ici Italiana infrastructure construction and Esim and by the temporary group of professionals made up of Progin and 3BA. The contract, worth over 33 million euros, is also financed with Pnrr funds.

“An important piece that aims to distance the traffic of goods from the urban fabric, with its centralized platforms for the arrival and departure of freight trains, thus also encouraging relations between the Port of Brindisi and the Mediterranean – he declares Gianpiero Strisciuglio, CEO and general manager of RFI -. An increasingly sustainable freight transport, therefore, which opens southern Italy towards Europe. Furthermore, the works planned on the Brindisi hub will allow an increasingly efficient connection with the Adriatic line, a connection that will bring the South closer to the rest of Europe”.

The project involves the completion and technological equipment of the new Brindisi Intermodal station – which will have four centralized 750 meter module tracks for the arrival and departure of freight trains – and the rail connection of the new station with the Adriatic line, via a new electrified line single track, with connection to the new crossroads (PC) Brindisi South.

The objective is to convey the traffic of goods on the junctions and the port quay of Costa Morena via the existing ASI backbone – and to streamline the terminalization activities of the trains serving the port, the industrial area and, in the future, the Piastra Rear-port intermodal logistics. The activation of the work is expected by 2026.
