everything ready for the big event

The vibrations are starting to be more intense: it’s very close to the “Rosso di Sera Family Run” on Friday 17 May and at “XXI Rosso Run Trieste” on Sunday 19. The events are organized by Promorun in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste and the Fvg Region and with the general maintenance and construction company Rosso, recently involved in the redevelopment works of the Porto Vecchio.

EVENTS – At sunset, on Friday at 7pm there will be the start of the “Rosso di Sera Family Run”, a 3km walk with family or friends, on the fully illuminated route in the fascinating Porto Vecchio. For everyone, final refreshment with ice cream and lots of entertainment, for adults and children, and Joma technical t-shirt and medal inside the race pack. The event espouses solidarity towards the Burlo Garofolo ETS Foundation, with the aim of supporting scientific research, improving assistance, purchasing machinery, acquiring advanced technologies, promoting health education events for children and teenagers, to their families and for women’s health.

On Sunday at 9am it is the turn of the “XXI Rosso Corri Trieste”, a 10 km road running race included in the FIDAL national calendar, and in parallel also the “Non Competitiva Ten”, without the obligation of membership and medical certificate.

THE TOP RUNNERS – The record to be beaten is that of the Ethiopian Negasa Gemeda, who returns for an encore after last year having ignited an exciting challenge against Celestin Ndikumana, snatching the victory from him in the sprint in 28’46” and thus establishing the new race record. The Ethiopian demonstrated that he is capable of an excellent 28’25”, time trial won in 2023 at the Adizero road to records in Herzogenaurach. The Ugandan Martin Magengo Kiprotich has what it takes to crumble him, bringing with him a personal best of 28’08” achieved at the end of April. He will try to keep up with the very young Kenyan Johana Erot, capable of running the distance in 28’47”, as he demonstrated in Nairobi last year.

In the women’s race, the main favorite is undoubtedly the Kenyan Caroline Makandi Gitonga (Run2Gether), holder of the race record with a time of 31’23” with which she crossed the finish line as winner last year. Gitonga is used to competing in Italy and recently set a new distance record by running 31’15” in Hamburg. Giving her a hard time will be the Croatian Matea Parlov Kostro, with fifteen national titles for her over distances from 1500 m to 10 km on the road, a career that has seen her on the top step of the podium since 2014. Kostro can count on a record of 31’54” achieved in Berlin last year and which also earned her the national record in the specialty and the silver medal at the European marathon in 2022. She recently won the bronze medal at the Stramilano.

THE NUMBERS – With registrations still open, the main event is almost sold out. Also interesting is the female share which is close to 35%, an ever-growing number to the great satisfaction of the organisers, as is the presence of foreigners representing 22 nations, a figure which accounts for 10% and which also sees athletes from Brazil, Peru and the United States. The whole of Italy is there, from the deep south, with athletes from Catania, in the north, from Bolzano as well as from Cuneo, further west.

CURIOSITY’ – The most mature athletes involved in the competitive 10 km are the 87-year-old Annalucia Fanelli (GS San Giacomo) and the 72-year-old Giorgio Bernard (CA Fincant. Wartsila), the latter “senator” of the Corsa dei Castelli race for having participated in all the editions. For the very young, it is Margherita and Noah with their 1 and 4 year olds who beat everyone.

REGISTRATIONS – They are open on the site until 11.59pm today. If bibs are available, it will be possible to register for the non-competitive event on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th May from 10am to 7pm at the Sala Riviera Starhotels Savoia Excelsior Palace (Riva del Mandracchio 4). In the same venue, on Saturday 18th from 10am to 7pm, it will be possible to register for competitive and non-competitive events. Registration will continue on Sunday from 7.30 to 8.30 in Porto Vecchio, Magazzino 27.

FAMILY RUN REGISTRATIONS – Online are closed. It will be possible to register tomorrow from 10am to 7pm and on Friday 17th at the Sala Riviera Starhotels Savoia from 10am to 3pm and from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Warehouse 27 in the Porto Vecchio. Registration is free for children and young people up to 18 years of age, who will only be entitled to the race bib and will be able to purchase the official t-shirt of the event, while supplies last, at a cost of 5 euros, a fee which will be entirely donated to charity.
