The scent of bread evokes an almost ancestral taste of essential things in daily life; for many it recalls a family context of sharing and affection, a bond with the motherland.

Bread is undoubtedly a constant presence in the history of human beings. It is a food that has the advantage of being both food and symbol, it is one of the foods richest in meanings, functions and cultural values, it brings with it memories, symbolic values ​​and

traditions that go beyond simply feeding the body.

Bread, and more precisely hard bread, reserves a fundamental and historical role for our home bread and for this reason the Municipal Administration of Ragusa has intended to undertake a path that protects, promotes and acquires prestige with the DOP denomination . The initiative was promoted by the Service Clubs of Ragusa, Lions, Rotary and Soroptmist, immediately implemented by the Councilor for Economic Development Giorgio Massari, and with the involvement of bakers and mill owners to begin the path that will lead to the recognition of the prestigious title .

A first phase of in-depth study preparatory to the path to be undertaken to obtain the recognition took place on 9 May, during a meeting during which the representatives of the trade associations with the large presence of representatives of the millers and bakers agreed on the need to immediately establish a technical table. Of considerable importance will be the contribution that the Altamura Bread Consortium will make, which has obtained the prestigious recognition of Altamura Dop Bread. To this end, an important conference has been scheduled at the Chamber of Commerce for the end of the month: it will be an opportunity to continue the path already undertaken to obtain DOP certification for Dura Bread.
