Car market: positive first quarter in Naples and Campania

The balance of the car market in Campania is positive: since the beginning of the year, in fact, growth has affected both the new and used sectors, as well as sales.

In detail, according to the latest data from “Auto-Trend”, the ACI statistical bulletin, in the first four months of the year, 22,248 new cars were registered in the Public Automotive Registry (PRA) in Campania: 8% more than in the first quarter of last year. Of the five provinces of Campania, Naples, with 10,721 first registrations, is the one that has shown the best trend with an increase of 16.3 percent. Only Salerno recorded a countertrend, showing a drop of 1.6%.

There is also a double-digit increase in transactions relating to the second-hand market. In our region, transfers of ownership, net of mini-transfers (i.e. temporary transfers in the name of the dealer awaiting resale to the end customer), from January to April, were 99,349, an increase of 14.4% compared to same period last year. In this sector, growth was rather homogeneous among the five provinces of Campania, going from a maximum of 14.7% recorded in Naples to a minimum of 12.2% in Benevento.

Finally, the trend of demolished cars was also positive. In particular, the cars removed from the PRA were 30,713 in Campania, equal to an overall increase of 12.9% which reaches the maximum percentage values in Caserta (+16.2%) and Naples (+14.5%), while the minimum is found in Benevento (+3.2%). On the basis of these data it appears that the unit replacement rate in Campania, in the period January-April, was equal to 1.38: that is to say that for every 100 new cars, 138 were removed from circulation. This indicator is more high in Naples (1.52), while in Italy it is equal to 0.71. In practice, compared to the national trend in our territory, registrations are lower than radiation.

“While awaiting the launch of the eco-incentives for the current year, the car market in our region is recording a positive trend in terms of the renewal of the fleet”, explains the President of the Regional Committee of the Automobile Clubs of Campania, Antonio Coppola. In fact, the number of cars taken off the road is higher than the number of new registrations. Nonetheless, the so-called green vehicles mark a setback: electric fuels decrease by 3.1%, petrol hybrids by 9.5% and diesel hybrids by 5.5%. Evidence that without the incentive of incentives, vehicles with a lower environmental impact are still rather inaccessible in a disadvantaged socio-economic reality like ours, due to the high purchase costs and the limited availability of electric charging stations. For this reason, the ACI proposes “social rental”, on the model of what has been achieved in France, which means giving new cars – possibly hybrid and Italian – on long-term rental, with monthly installments lower than industrial costs, to those people who do not have the financial capacity to purchase one.”
