Blue Flag 2024: Bisceglie confirmed for the fourth consecutive year. Margherita out after 10 years

Bisceglie will also be for 2024 Blue Flag: it is the fourth consecutive year.

The announcement took place yesterday, Tuesday 14 May 2024, during the conference in Rome in which the city of Dolmen was able to collect the coveted banner awarded by FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).

The coveted recognition of the Blue Flag, attributed to the beaches of Bisceglie for four years now, is annually awarded to the beaches that protect a eco-sustainable management of the territory and its environmental resources respecting both the imperative criteria and the essential services.

Margaret of Savoy was disappointed. The communication from FEE, which this year did not award the prestigious Blue Flag banner to the salt beaches, interrupting a series that had lasted for ten consecutive yearscaused regret in the municipal administration.

But at the same time, it is not an assessment that affects the quality of the water of our coastline but rather relates to other criteria.

The Mayor explains adv. Bernardo Lodispoto: «We have looked into the matter in depth, which I intend to clarify immediately in order to clear the field of any type of speculation.

Among the parameters for the award of the Blue Flag there is, obviously, the separate waste collection index: well, in the reference period (two years before, i.e. 2022) we had some critical issues related to the post-pandemic phase, which were then accentuated by the transition from one manager to another; furthermore, with data in hand, we are finding that every year, in the months of July and August, there is a notable increase in the percentage of undifferentiated food due to attitudes that are not always correct on the part of some visitors.

Fortunately, the data relating to 2023 show us a strong recovery with percentages of separate waste collection well above 60% in many months of the year, with the maximum peak in March with 66.9%. And the data for the first quarter of 2024 are also positive: January 59%, February 62%, March 59%, for an average of 60%.

The data encourages us for the future and tells us that the failure to award this year represents an occasional event that has already happened to other coastal towns in Puglia, which did not receive recognition for a year only to recover it the following year. following year.

We know well which way to go: I believe that we should not dramatize but start again with confidence by encouraging separate waste collection and strengthening the service in the summer months, as we have decided to do by mutual agreement with the company for the summer of 2024 with the hiring of 15 additional units.

But we will need collaboration from everyone, citizens and tourists. Our sea is excellent, as evidenced by the recent survey carried out by Arpa Puglia: this year the Green Flag for our child-friendly beaches and we have applied for the Lilac flagwhich rewards those Municipalities that pay particular attention to tourists with disabilities and which we hope will be awarded to us.

I trust in the civic sense of the salt workers and above all in the commitment of young people and those who care about the defense of the environment which is the first resource on which our tourism is based”.
