The Campus aimed at students from schools in the province who joined the project for the prevention of bullying and cyber bullying entitled “1nessuno100giga” took place on Thursday 9 May at the Regina Margherita Municipal Theater in Caltanisetta. The event, financed by the Sicilian Region – Department of Education and Vocational Training, coordinated by USR Sicilia and managed by the Polo CTS IC “Lombardo Radice” School of Caltanissetta, saw the presence of many schools (from primary to high school) who joined the project in all its components: teachers, pupils and parents, as well as the project partners: Fondazione Carolina, Mabasta and Telefono Azzurro. For the occasion, the 2nd E class of the lower secondary school of the “MLKing” Comprehensive Institute of Caltanissetta, led by the Headmaster Prof. Daniela Rizzotto collected the third prize with a short film entitled: “The Mask”, the result of work carried out during the training workshops foreseen in the project, under the guidance of teacher Cancemi Fabio. What is a “mask” if not a way to hide your face from others? The expressive fixity of the features and the otherness of the image that it returns to the outside world become, in the present digital work, the transposition of a human need to defend one’s ego, to hide it from the aggressiveness of modern society. The “mask” therefore becomes the expression of the inability to relate to others and the choice to use it can take on a double meaning: it can be a form of self-defense or a way to attack the other. In the first case it encompasses the inability to manage all the most hidden fears, the deepest traumas. In the second, however, it becomes an emblem of violence, abuse of others which, freeing the individual from moral and ethical principles, leads him to act without inhibitory brakes. The symbolic device used in the short film starts from the awareness that, regardless of the motivations that lead to wearing the mask, it is essential to always find the strength and courage to express one’s identity by remaining oneself while respecting others. The production of the short film involved the entire class who participated in different ways in the various phases of creating the project: organizing the set, reading the story board, managing the timing of the sequences. The students thus acquired new skills and knowledge related to the use of different techniques: video recording, stop-motion and always collaborated with interest and enthusiasm in the creation of the final product. Friday 17 May marks the conclusion of the “1nessuno100giga” project. On the same day, while some King classes will meet the Caltanisetta Postal Police to address the issue of cyberbullying, other classes will participate in the event “A whistle for bullying”: musical, artistic and sporting activities (football, basketball and volleyball tournaments ) organized by the IC “Lombardo Radice” school, to create an opportunity for recreation, but also for reflection and sharing a common thought in the fight against bullying, where the main protagonists are students of all levels in the province.
