Mela, irreverent surprise at Granari Off

CIVITAVECCHIA – On the evening of Sunday 12 May I had the opportunity to attend one of the stagings at the Granari Spazio Off theater of the theatrical show entitled “Mela”, directed by Claudia Crostella. An irreverent and ingenious comedy, with a funny but sincere reconstruction of the historical and cultural setting of 1970s Italy.

A totally female show, made extremely enjoyable thanks to the ease of the characters and their actresses and the musical combinations which overall were quite interesting. A splendid grandmother Mela played by a wonderful and radiant Maria Luisa Russo, who perfectly fills the role of this jeune grand-mère still very active in the baguette shops, yes, but those of her granddaughter, managing to ingratiate herself with any young man who manages to fall into her good graces. A captivating Simona De Leo, Carmen, an eternal girl on the shoulders of her mother Rosaria, an element of torment and ecstasy in this comedy with emotionally spasmodic characters.

Laughing is good, but above all it makes you think: three lives of three women united by a kinship but who have absolutely nothing in common between them. The life of a woman crushed and oppressed by the lives of others who every day – probably due to the too much love she gives – gets less and less, if not slaps and punches from her existence. The life of Rosaria (Claudia Crostella), who, having reached the limit to try to counteract all this, will push herself to crazy actions dictated by her precariousness. A thrill at the end, where we realize that in the end, no, it’s not true that these women are so different from each other and that pain often unites even those who are distant and shy in everyday life.

The beauty of a slice of everyday life given by three talented actresses with scenes of absolute and exciting realism. The embrace of those who no longer have anything and those who – after having taken everything away – realize, albeit late, that they have not been close enough to those who needed attention and affection. Finally, a message for those reading, we usually tend to think that if a show is staged in a smaller theater in terms of size or fame it is worth nothing, in reality most of the time this is not the case. And this – in my opinion – is yet another confirmation of it.
