Failure to reclaim municipal roads in Ragusa, Chiavola (Pd): “The tender that would have solved the problem has not been implemented”

What happened to the implementation of the notice that the Municipality of Ragusa had issued addressing agricultural companies for the weeding and reclamation of municipal areas and roads? This is the question raised by the PD municipal councilor, Mario Chiavola, who highlights that, after an adequate invitation from the Prefecture, coinciding with the beginning of August 2023, when Sicily was blazing with fires, finally the The municipal administration was convinced to issue this notice, asking farmers for an expression of interest to intervene to clean the extra-urban roads. “This – recalls Chiavola who presented an oral question to obtain specific feedback – happened a few years ago on the occasion of the first Cassì council. Now, however, this further ban has never been implemented. About ten farms participated but none of them were ever called. Of course, there is no obligation on the part of the municipal administration to make calls. It was apparently made clear that the funds would be lacking. But then why prepare the tender in question if there was no adequate funding to cover it? In reality, the funds should have been there because otherwise the tender would have had no reason to exist. Furthermore, there were meetings after meetings with the managers of the various sectors involved, hours and hours spent in the offices but never any calls. After almost a year, the fire emergency could break out again without this municipal council having done anything. Among other things, the owners of agricultural companies ask us, rightly, why they were asked to participate in a call for tenders which so far, after such a long time, has not been followed up on. An attitude that makes no sense even considering the fact that in the municipal territory there are approximately 130 km of extra-urban roads that would need rapid treatment to avoid fire risks”.
