ALEXANDRIA – “There have never been so many hirings as in this year and a half of the Meloni Government”. Yesterday the Undersecretary for Justice, Andrea Delmastro, visited the two penitentiary institutions of Alessandria, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1974 revolt. The representative of the Meloni Government also met the labor unionsstill in a state of agitation to protest against the shortage of staff and the overcrowding of prisoners.
“Over 7 thousand hires have been financed, If those who preceded me had done the same, we wouldn’t be talking about staff shortages now.” underlined the Honorable Delmastro “We’re hiring like never before. Here, as in the other 190 penitentiary institutions in Italy, the new officers of two courses have arrived and others will arrive in a month and a half. We have also given answers on the operational protocols and established the medical corps of the Penitentiary Police which did not exist before, in addition to the operational emergency group trained who guarantees support to colleagues within an hour of a riot throughout Italy. For this government, treatment is a segment of security, the women and men of the Penitentiary Police are no longer alone. We have provided 10,200 shields and the same number of riot helmets, 20,000 cut-resistant gloves, 20,000 gas masks, 2,000 truncheon kits and 2,000 truncheons. We have released 255 million in prison constructionwe are reversing an abandonment curve of the last 20 years, during which not even turnover was guaranteed for those who retired”.
“Undersecretary Delmastro gave partial answers but his presence made us understand that we are in the thoughts of this Government, as law enforcement and as Alexandria prison” underlined the regional deputy secretary of the Sappe union Demis Napolitano “on San Michele the organic plan is wrong, we work up to 10 hours a day. Undersecretary Delmastro has committed to reviewing the organic plants, it would be very important. We believe that to have a minimum level of security 40/50 more agents would be needed in San Michele and 30 more agents in Alessandria. In the meantime we will continue with the abstention from the canteen in the next few days we will communicate other forms of protest. We will continue to make our voices heard until we get something for our colleagues.”
