Bombardment, photographic exhibition at the House of Memory

CIVITAVECCHIA – On the occasion of the anniversary of the first bombing of Civitavecchia on 14 May 1943, the Civitavecchiese Historical Society has set up a very interesting exhibition dedicated to that tragic event at the Casa della Memoria in Piazza Leandra.

The already extensive photographic documentation which is constantly displayed in the premises and which documents Civitavecchia before the war events and the destruction it suffered was, on this occasion, implemented by various newspapers of the time kindly made available by partner Pietro Mancini. They are newspapers from the immediate days following 14 May and 30 August 1943 (the second and most destructive bombing of the many that followed) and those announcing the arrival of the Allied troops after the liberation of Rome in 1944.
Finally, a newspaper published in Civitavecchia in 1967 which reports very painful testimonies from citizens who were involved in the event.

The House of Memory is open every day from Monday to Saturday from 10 to 12. By appointment at different times for school groups wishing to visit the exhibition.
