Reading time: 2 minutes

Of the 21 stages of Tour of Italy, three of the most spectacular run one behind the other. The first was yesterday with the dirt roads, the second is today with the time trial and the third is tomorrow with the uphill finish. Here are the details of the tough test against time that the runners will face.

Path

Today’s time trial, the first of the 107th women’s race, is long 40.6 kilometers. One runner at a time will start from Foligno to get to Perugia passing through Spello, Captain Loreto, Santa Maria degli Angeli (where the first half will be taken), Bastia Umbra, Ospedalecchio, San Giovanni Bridge And Valleceppi Bridge (here the second chronometric reading will be taken). Up to this moment, i.e. for the first 34 kilometers of the race, the cyclists will be able to develop great speed because the terrain will be practically completely flat.

The climb that will take them to the heart of Perugia will begin right from Ponte Valleceppi, and anyone who has been there knows how steep and hard it can be to tackle. The first 1300 meters of climb which will end at Casaglia I’m at one average slope of 10.7% with points reaching the 16%. The last 6.6 kilometers are at 4.1% with several curves and counterslopes before the wide final hairpin bends: the finish line in Corso Vannucci will be worth as Fourth category Gpm.

Favorites

Yesterday he could have tried something if only the dirt stage hadn’t been the day before an important time trial. Filippo Ganna was held, because today is the day of his specialty: pedaling against the flow of time.

It could conceivably be his partner who stole his place in the hot seat Tobias Fossworld champion in the specialty in 2022. But it is also true that today there will be a climb to face and Ganna’s legs seem fresher.

They are also worn in time trials Geraint Thomas And Tadej Pogacar: the first will race to sharpen his disadvantage and the second to put even more time between himself and the rest of the – according to some – normal cyclists. A good performance is expected from Antonio Tiberiat least for a top 10.

Where to see the Giro d’Italia on TV

The seventh stage of Giro d’Italia 2024 will be broadcast in full on Rai channels and on Eurosport 1 starting from 12.45. On Rai Sport will be broadcast Morning tour starting from 12.20 until to 2.00pm when there will be the passage up Rai 2.
