Olbia. The Regional Councillor Roberto Li Gioi expresses his satisfaction with the refusal of the Ministry of the Environment to build the gas depot. These are his words: “The rejection by the Ministry of the Environment of the construction project of coastal deposit of liquid natural gas in Cala Saccaia is news that gives us back hope and which, without a doubt, legitimizes the validity of the protests of the citizens of Gallura. The reasons why the methane terminal, with a 40 thousand cubic meter LNG storage tank, did not pass the environmental impact assessment are still unknown. However – recalls the regional councilor of the M5S group Roberto Li Gioi – already two years ago I expressed my opposition to a project that could put the very delicate ecosystem of the Gulf of Olbia where the finest mussels in the world have been bred for a hundred years. In fact, the fear of the mussel farmers – continues Li Gioi – concerned the enormous quantities of water that would be taken from the Gulf to cool the plants and subsequently poured into the sea at very high temperatures. We cannot allow decisions dictated by commercial will to put the history and economy of our city at risk.”
