PESARO – Between off-limits areas and “packaged” structures, traveler traffic at the train station does not stop. And the work in progress is still expected to take a long time. Here is the updated RfI (Italian Railway Network) timetable. RFI, the station management, reports that the first part of the interventions are expected to be delivered within the year, with the station redeveloped starting from the facade and the start of work on the lifts, overcoming architectural barriers and improving accessibility.

The complexity

«Work on the passenger building, as well as the entire area behind the tracks, is underway – explains the architect of the Italian Railway Network, Francesca Cerrone. Three months will not be enough to complete the complex work on the building now packaged, since the improvement and seismic adaptation must be done. We are also proceeding with collateral works, i.e. the new ticket office and the reorganization of the internal spaces for travelers and professionals. As regards the other works, the interventions for the redevelopment of the railway shelters, the station platforms and the current damaged underpass that leads to the car park on the Miralfiore side will begin after the summer. And perhaps as early as autumn the construction site will also start for the new access building to the station, on the Miralfiore side, thus allowing the expansion of the station itself”.

Certification: the Pesaro railway station is one of the first 4 pilot projects chosen to obtain the certification of the European Invision protocol thanks also to new materials used during the construction phase, as RFI technicians recall, who are working on improvement and valorisation works, more accessibility because indoor lifts will be installed and pedestrian connections will be created out of the station and towards the city centre. External areas: we will instead have to wait until the beginning of 2025, when the passenger building will be almost completed, to see the parking of travelers and taxis entering and exiting the station reorganised. The Railway Network with the Municipality’s Public Works service has agreed on the completion of the current cycle path, which today ends on Viale della Liberazione to then connect it to the area of the old Roman walls around San Salvatore and arrive at the station, connecting with the stretch of via Montegrappa up to the historic center. However, the executive project of the work is delegated to the new municipal council. And again between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, the furnishings, flooring and lighting of the station square itself will have to be redone.
