Tenda bis trial, the Court of Appeal of Turin acquits all the accused

The Court of Appeal of Turin has overturned the outcome of the first degree trial relating to the maxi-investigation which in 2017 led to the seizure of the Tenda bis construction site, then managed by Grandi Lavori Fincosit. A sensational decision, which acquits all the accused. In January 2022, the judge of the Court of Cuneo Sandro Cavallo had in fact pronounced a guilty verdict against the technical director – at the time of the facts – Antonino Froncillo, the two construction foremen Giuseppe Apone and Antonio Palazzo and the workers Luigi Mansueto and Nunziante De Rosa, all accused, in various capacities, of the thefts of material that occurred at the Limone Piemonte construction site.

Convictions, as mentioned, canceled today by the Court of Appeal. The thefts were reclassified as embezzlement: in the absence of a complaint, it was decided not to proceed. The crimes linked to the possession of explosives and the disposal of waste have instead become statute-barred and therefore extinguished.

Today’s decision concerns the first part of the trial, the one that remained under the jurisdiction of the Court of Cuneo, concerning the aforementioned thefts on the construction site, the possession of explosive material and environmental crimes. The “heaviest” charges – those relating to fraud against the State and forgeries – instead ended up in Turin (with the unknown of the statute of limitations which will start in January 2025).
