«The future of hunting depends on us, on how we will be able to overcome divisions, on how we will be able to recover a serious discussion on shareable issues to find a strategy that overcomes the current differences». This is the message that Giulio Piccioni sent when leaving the presidency of the provincial section of the Federcaccia of Terni after fifteen years – he is now honorary president -, leaving the baton to Enrico Riffelli. In his farewell speech, Piccioni addressed all the issues of the moment, recalling what has been done and what still needs to be done. As in the case of the future of the Territorial Hunting Area number 3 of the Ternano-Orvieto area, underlining «the importance of wildlife management and repopulation, with the too many uncertainties that beset the many volunteer federation hunters in the management of the repopulation and capture areas and the Temporary buffer areas”. According to Giulio Piccioni, «the social and strategic value of the hunter in emergencies has finally been recognized, like other professional figures, as is clear from the role entrusted to him by the extraordinary commissioner of the Government, as bioregulator, in the ‘Depopulation Plan of the wild boar species for the prevention and fight against African swine fever”. Clearly against the digital hunting card in favor of the paper one, Piccioni returns to the controversy, still alive, that persists in the hunting world over the management of the ATC3. «Before Federcaccia wasn’t good – he states – now Federcaccia is needed, who needs it? To those who promised that we could do without management by offering ‘ready hunting launches’, clearly in contrast with the regional hunting wildlife plan. I don’t feel defeated by politics but mortified, yes, for having always supported and told hunters that politics in hunting management has nothing to do with the low levels. In the affair of the Umbrian ATC – observes Giulio Piccioni – this time there was a slip, siding not only for the management guarantees of the institution, renouncing its role as guarantor and mediator, dividing both the hunting world and the agricultural world and not even responding to the environmental one, thus determining a rift that can only be healed with a serious commissioner phase, more technical than political”. Another hot topic is the crisis of the agricultural territory with increasingly massive occupations of solar panels, firmly condemned by the hunting world: «Instead, we need to be confident and invest in the culture of wildlife management with respect for biodiversity and agricultural activities, which however allows for a sustainability of resources”. There is also space for an invitation to young people: «Imagine going to our grandmothers or great-grandmothers and being taught to mend relationships, to mend the heart to embroider the value of life again». In his greeting he wanted to maintain that the passage of the presidency from him to Riffelli «must not be interpreted as a phase of weakness of Federcaccia di Terni, but rather a point of relaunch with the youngest, most vigorous and modern energies and aspirations to best face the new while maintaining traditions, to develop new projects capable of involving hunters for a new season of loyalty”. Finally, the president addressed a warm greeting «to all the peripheral management of Federcaccia, to all the hunters of Terni and beyond and also to those who had reservations of esteem, therefore an infinite thank you to the institutions, prefecture, province and police headquarters , and to the police bodies who responded carefully to the needs of the category and, last but not least, the other associations, in particular the agricultural ones”.
