“F” for Famila and for the final, yet another. Ragusa beaten one, now it’s the Scudetto derby with Venice

The Famila Wuber Schio remains afloat “on the water’s edge” on the Sicilian shores of Ragusa and heads home again with the pass for the series championship final in your pocket. The victory with a very narrow margin was difficult and therefore even more exciting +1 (67-68 the score on the display after the actual 40 minutes of play) for the oranges from Dikaioulakos in the presence of a Passalacqua Ragusa which proves to be of a completely different caliber compared to Game 1 and confirms itself as a very dangerous outsider quintet for the big teams, as the “Black Vs” of Bologna already knew, having been surprisingly ousted in the quarter-finals by the green and whites.

After the clear victory on Saturday evening at the PalaRomare in Schio, the reply arrived last night and, all things considered, the same spotless march of Captain Sottana and his companion follows that of the lagoon “cousins” of the Umana Reyer Venice. The Veneto derby will then be one more event, after arriving in the championship arm in arm between the dominating teams of the season in Italy, the two top seeds.

For a good part of the match on Sicilian soil the Famila had a really bad time. Down 7-0 immediately, the Vicenza team are due resort to experience of their athletes to mend the rift and never let their opponents go away, remaining in the game until the final seconds in which the decisive final blow was launched. At mid-match the Orange team were down 6 points at 42 to 36, then the defenses tightened and the nets shook much less in the final two quarters. Schio’s coach is nervous and gets a technical, and Famila Schio is still 5 down at the minibreak before the final 10 minutes. The lead comes at 57 all, the guests take advantage of the extra rotations and in the swing of overtaking they get the better of the photo finish. Not great shooters, four of them scored just above double figures, with a trio at 12 points.

A week of time and preparation in view of the multi-act final now awaits the gladiators of patron Marcello Cestaro, ready for the challenge which is renewed after having got their hands on the Italian Cup two months ago. Weekend without games for the two Venetians, in the slot on the playoff calendar that was reserved for any semi-final “beautiful” teams. In short, a few more days to catch your breath and heal your aches and pains before starting the guaranteed spectacle of the last duel, starting next Wednesday (15 May) in Venice.
