“The courage to dare, for a Europe of rights” will be a meeting to reflect on rights and the prison situation in the European Union together with Roberto Salis, the father of Ilaria – a teacher from Monza arrested last year in Budapest with the accused of having participated in clashes with two neo-Nazis during a demonstration.
It is scheduled for Saturday 11 May, starting at 4.30 pm, in via Ratti in the center of Savona. The central theme will be the defense of fundamental human rights, still denied in some European states: Roberto Salis is traveling around Italy not only to give voice to his daughter, but also to raise the debate on the situation of prisoners in Italy.
“We want to elect Ilaria Salis to the European Parliament, so that she can obtain parliamentary immunity and face a fair trial” says Luigi Lanza, municipal councilor in Savona and coordinator of the Italian Left in the province of Savona.
“But with this candidacy we want to put the conditions of prisoners on our continent at the center and force the European Union to address the issue of the rule of law in an illiberal democracy like Orban’s Hungary”.
During the meeting the following will speak: Roberto Salis (father of Ilaria Salis), Simona Cosso and Daniele Cicala (candidates for the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra in the North-West constituency) and representatives of the political and associative realities of the territory.
