Harris Beach to merge with New England law firm

Syracuse, NY — Harris Beach, a law firm with a major presence across Upstate New York, announced Tuesday an agreement to merge with Murtha Cullina, a law firm with offices in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

The merged firm will be known as Harris Beach Murtha, the two companies said in a press release.

Together, the two firms will have a large legal footprint, with more than 250 attorneys across 15 offices in several states across the Northeast.

Founded in 1856, Harris Beach has offices in Buffalo; Rochester; Syracuse; Ithaca; Saratoga Springs; Albany; White Plains; Long Island; New York City; New Haven, Conn.; Washington, D.C.; and Newark, New Jersey.

Established in 1936, Murtha Cullina has offices in White Plains; Boston; and Stamford, New Haven and Hartford, Connecticut.

Harris Beach and Murtha Cullina will continue to operate as independent entities until the combination has been completed. In the interim, Chris Jagel, CEO of Harris Beach, and Andy Corea, managing partner of Murtha Cullina, will lead an interim advisory committee.

The merger is subject to a vote by the partners of each firm approving an operating agreement. The vote is expected to take place in the next several months, with the merger taking effect on Jan. 1, the firms said.
