After the exit of the M5s from the Apulian government, Giuseppe Conte’s accusations on the moral question and the internal tensions of the Nazarene, the center-left majority in the Region is strengthened with the no-confidence vote in Michele Emiliano and votes unitedly against the motion presented by the center-right (18 votes in favour, 31 against). Action also stands in defense of the governor, despite the doubts expressed in recent weeks, while Italia viva votes with the centre-right.

«I ask you to reject the motion of no confidence, because I honestly don’t deserve to be voted out of confidence. I tell you this from the bottom of my heart, Region – Emiliano said in his speech to the Council yesterday -. I will have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but not to the point of being disheartened at a time when, in twenty years of very hard work, we have truly changed the history of this Region.”

The governor succeeded in a difficult task (especially in convincing Action), insisting on the fact that “the investigations do not concern the political activity of the Region” and promising to “strengthen the safeguards of legality” as requested by the M5s. The political success, however, is above all that of having demonstrated that they can do what they “cannot do” in Rome, that is, “build a broad, broad democratic front that brings together all the progressive forces in our country, to prepare the future of this country. Something that we try to do in the political laboratory of this Region.”

The one who regretted the outcome of the vote, apart from the right, was above all Matteo Renzi, who reiterated the guaranteeist imprinting of his party (“also with Emiliano”), explaining however that he wanted to “send the governor away for political reasons, not for the investigation.” «Emiliano – he continued – was saved yesterday by the vote of Five Stars and Action. If Conte and Calenda had voted to send him home, as Italia Viva did, today the President of Xylella, of no tap, of no Ilva, of the Sixth Star Democratic Party would no longer be the President of Puglia. Everyone is good with the slogans: but then Emiliano is saved by Five Star and Action. Mathematics doesn’t lie.”

This morning, speaking of the Giovanni Toti affair, it was the Fdi deputy Giovanni Donzelli who teased the Apulian president, highlighting the difference between the Ligurian governor, “who says he will demonstrate his non-involvement in any accusation”, and Emiliano himself who instead «boasted from a stage that he was going to speak to the families of mafia bosses in order to allow them to engage in politics. Here – he added – if Toti had done this, he would have asked him to resign today.”
