Periodically, the Reggio Calabria Traffic Police carries out specific inspection services on vehicles transporting goods and people. This activity is carried out with personnel from the local Civil Motorization and makes use of a Mobile Revision Center (CMR) which effectively allows us to carry out a general review of the conditions of the vehicles, to verify their suitability for circulation.
One of these services was carried out in recent days at the “Rosarno Est” Service Area, with the aim of monitoring the traffic along the A2 Mediterranean Motorway.
During the service, a truck owned by a company based in Avellino, equipped for the transport of temperature-controlled food, was subjected to inspection. It is known that many food substances (meat, fish, milk and derivatives, etc.) can be transported without interrupting the cold chain, under a controlled temperature regime established by specific regulations.
In this circumstance, this vehicle, although theoretically suitable for carrying out this type of transport, carried approximately 2 tonnes of curd (which must be stored at a temperature between 0° C and 6° C), with the refrigeration unit necessary to maintain the correct temperature. temperature off, despite the day being sunny and with an external temperature close to 25 degrees.
To verify the suitability of the transported product, the intervention of the staff of the ASP of Reggio Calabria – Department of Prevention and the inspection sector – was requested who, after having verified its conditions, established its unsuitability for food consumption, proceeding accordingly to seizure for subsequent confiscation, pursuant to art.13 DL 689/81 in application of art.5 DL 27/21.
The malfunction of the cooling system was not the only inefficiency of the vehicle, which – subjected to inspection by Civil Motorization personnel – was judged unfit for circulation and suspended with the obligation to carry out an exceptional inspection.
Overall, 6 vehicles were checked during the service, no. 5 of which were found to be illegal (5 suspended from circulation). The Traffic Police therefore raised n. 5 reports for violations of the Highway Code.
The joint services with the Civil Motorization – using the mobile inspection center – will be periodically replicated by the Traffic Police of Reggio Calabria, based on a calendar prepared at regional level.
