Bassini takes up Carrara’s legacy: she will be the candidate for mayor of Monte Carlo

The news was in the air, but this morning (8 May) the official announcement arrived. She will be the current deputy mayor Marzia Bassini to collect the legacy of Federico Carraramayor of Monte Carlo for the last 5 years, running for the highest municipal office for the next legislature, for the civic list (but which looks towards the centre-right) For Monte Carlo.

A choice to give continuity to the work of the current majority: Marzia Bassini, 58 years old and high school teacher at the Liceo Lorenzini in Pescia, before becoming deputy mayor, was councilor for five years in the second mandate of mayor Vittorio Fantozzi. Not only that: Bassini has already held the functions of mayor for 6-7 months in 2012 due to the difficult period experienced by Federico Carrara due to Covid.

An illness that has left health consequences in the mayor and which is also one of the causes that led Federico Carrara not to stand for re-election. It was the mayor himself, very emotional, who explained the reasons that led him not to reappear.

Federico Carrara is not running for mayor again: “A painful decision. I’m leaving for personal reasons.”

“I thank Federico for the kind words, which I share – he declared Marzia Bassinicandidate for mayor for the list For Monte Carlo -. Ours is a team where there are no prima donnas, but where everyone works for the good of Monte Carlo. A true civic list, which has always been administered in the interest of all our fellow citizens and where there are no preclusions towards anyone. It has been our strength in recent years and will continue to be. Thanks to the presence of a regional councilor like Vittorio Fantozzi, we have obtained important contributions for works that will improve the quality of life of the people of Montecarlo”.

Marzia Bassini immediately sets the first three objectives: “Within an intense and detailed work program that we will present in the next few days, the result of a daily comparison with the citizens over five years, which aims to maintain the level of services offered to the citizens and complete many of the projects in the pipeline (almost 3 million euros of ongoing investment), there are three cornerstones around which I want to personally commit and concentrate our energies and skills: the fractions and the localities of the Municipality at the center of the administrative agenda with a project for the redevelopment of public spaces and a more incisive urban maintenance and decoration work, increasing road safety. A’particular attention to the historic center through the reconstitution of a municipal commission which, by bringing administrators, citizens, shopkeepers and professionals to the table, aims to encourage the repopulation of the village and with it of essential services, combining the legitimate needs of residents with quality cultural and tourist development for Monte Carlo. The full support for the world of Monte Carlo associationsfrom competitive sports to the more markedly social and cultural one, an irreplaceable reference and lifeblood of our community, but above all a point of generational connection and inclusion of our children in public life”.

Care of the hamlets, the historic center and support for associations: these three, therefore, are the first three fundamental points launched by Marzia Bassini. In detail, the mayoral candidate intends to establish a department that takes care of the care of the hamlets and a commission (as in the past) to deal with the artistic and cultural heritage of the Municipality. And the president has already been identified: Giorgio Pieraccini. “He is a person who has the heritage of Monte Carlo at heart and knows our reality very well – says Marzia Bassini -. We want to give an even more welcoming face to the capital.”

The candidate

Marzia Bassini 58 years old, born in Montecarlo, resident in the ancient village originally from San Piero in campo (her father Sergio, an appreciated craftsman, known to all as “Bassini the carpenter”), high school teacher at the Lorenzini high school in Pescia, married to a daughter, she was councilor for five years in the second mandate of mayor Vittorio Fantozzi and councilor and deputy mayor in the current mandate of mayor Federico Carrara.
