Reggio Emilia Welcome returns for music in the historic center. They leave again on Wednesday 8 May at 9.30pm the concerts of the Catomes Tôt in via Panciroli, one of the most well-known meeting places in Reggio, has come back to life after a long stasis due to the pandemic and then to legal complications between the management of the social center itself and the previous managers. Now, having resolved the issues and entrusted the bar and restaurant part to a group of proven operators, we are also thinking about cultural proposals.

Today it’s the turn of music, with the first stage of a musical review curated by Olivier Manchion, French musician (protagonist of the Ulan Bator era) resident in Reggio for many years and long-time artistic director of the historic Red Noise experience, which had its base right at Catomes Tôt. The path is different, proposed by Manchon as a citizen of the historic centre, simple volunteer of the social center and worker.

The debut will be entrusted to Olivier himself, who will perform as Permanent Fatal Error, the name of his solo project, after opening with Mattia Ferrarini of Dolpo, an intriguing band from Reggio Emilia. It will then continue until July 10th with a series of concerts always on Wednesdays, always with free admission and starting at 9.30pm. Catomes Tôt will be open from the previous hours, for those who want to stop for an aperitif.

The calendar includes the indie of Stoop on May 15th, the bossanova of Alessandro Faieti and Caio Chagas and the new group Batia Hasan on May 29th: the members are Mattia Ferrarini together with Venturelli and Landi from Giardini di Mirò. In June we resume the 6th with the rock blouse of the T-Birdson the 12th it’s the turn of folk Simone Romei “Desmoines”the 19th toTrio Islands by Giulio Vetroni, on the 26th Banda Zironi quartet. July will host two dates, the 3rd with i Frogs, Pikes and Noses by Matteo Ranellucci and Daniele Nasi and the 10th with Monosolo show by jazz trumpeter Tiziano Bianchi, teacher, for years part of Vasco Rossi’s live wind section.

For Manchion it is a pleasant return. «I am very happy first of all that Catomes Tôt has resumed its activities and then that we can resume live music. For many reasons, for the cultural proposal and to revive an area where signs of degradation are present. I’m talking about Cervi park: don’t call it Tocci anymore, it’s a name that carries with it a “toxic” legacy”, he says. The desire to do is great: «I am launching an appeal to the inhabitants of the area and also to the students of the schools located nearby: fill the place with life, come forward with your projects, we are here». And yet the need is high: «I discovered that the peak of cultural well-being in the city was 2019 and this corresponds to my first period of activity. My work was therefore part of it and should make us reflect that the driving force that led to this peak was the indie scene in Reggio Emilia. We must take care of everyday life, not just spot culture.”
