Today’s edition of “Il Giornale di Sicilia” focuses on the most sanctioned Palermo club in Serie B.
Palermo was fined 20,000 euros for the inappropriate behavior of its fans during the match against Ascoli at the Renzo Barbera stadium. Although the danger of a partial or total closure of the stadium was averted, the Rosanero club was punished by the sports judge for throwing firecrackers which caused a brief suspension of the match.
Details of the Sanction
In the 16th minute of the first half, shortly after the organized groups entered the stands, several firecrackers were thrown. The firecrackers fell near the playing field, frightening Ascoli’s goalkeeper, Nicola Leali, and forcing referee Marco Di Bello to interrupt the match for four minutes. After the final whistle, a stone was thrown from the stands towards some Ascoli players.
Fans protest
The organized groups decided to remain outside the stadium in the first quarter of an hour and in the final minutes in protest against the team due to the disappointing recent results.
Fine
Palermo was fined 20,000 euros, yet another fine for the club, which is already the most sanctioned of the Serie B teams.
Disqualifications and Disciplinary Measures
Disqualified Players:
Petriccione (Catanzaro)
Pickel (Cremonese)
Balogh (Parma)
Calabresi (Pisa)
Gondo and Rozzio (Reggiana)

Sanctions for Coaches
Alessandro Nesta, coach of Reggiana, was banned for two matches for making seriously offensive expressions to the match officials after the defeat against Sampdoria.
Conclusions
The behavior of the fans at Barbera has led to another significant fine for Palermo, and the growing tensions require attention and preventative measures. The Rosanero management will have to work to calm the atmosphere around the team in view of the last crucial challenges of the season.
