NewTuscia – VELLETRI – The fifth edition of Landscapes of the Body – International Contemporary Dance Festivalon 11 and 12 May at the Teatro Artemisio Gian Maria Volonté in Velletri: for the first appointment of the festival, four unmissable shows are scheduled, curated by Fabrizio Favale/KLM The supplicants, Tanz Harz, Artemis Dance And BorderlineDanza.
The festival will open on May 11th at 9pm American Dances – Variations and Experiments Of Fabrizio Favale, choreographer-poet capable of giving the dynamic gesture a philosophical and interior voice. The artist brings a selected work to the stage NID – Platform 2023, aimed at investigating the expressive potential of the dance discipline. Abstaining from the purely spectacular and choreographic aspects of the performance, past and present dance techniques are brought back to their simple formal dimension, to give rise, in the articulation of the individual elements, to the construction and deconstruction of a series of dance sequences. The work chooses to focus attention on the techniques (not on the choreographies) conceived and developed in particular by Merce Cunningham, José Limón and Trisha Brown, and wants to collect and question the legacies of those practices.
Following the German company Tanz Harz with Elektra Excerptdirected by Tarek Assam: a ensemble who has built a vast and valuable repertoire exported throughout Europe. The ancient Greek tragedy comes to life in powerful images of dance, through scenes of a landscape that winds between ancient and modern, the unhappy heroine Elektra is dragged into a spiral of violence and pain. From the battlefields to the palace, the opera is supported by the archaic and imposing music of Patrick Schimanskiwhile the bodies in movement give material to the rereading of this myth, in which the matricidal and avenging daughter of her father, in the manifestation of her psychological conflict, comes to wear the dual role of executioner and victim.
The evening of May 12th opens at 6.30pm with The Bislacchi – Homage to Fellini edited by Artemis Dancea group founded in the 90s in France by the director and choreographer Monica Casadei, characterized by the contamination of different artistic territories. A mise en scène inspired by the universe of the master Federico Fellini, which recalls and reinvents some places from the famous filmmaker’s imagination to the tune of Nino Rota. In an atmosphere inclined towards the lyrical and sentimental, but which also vibrates with vitality and humour, dance and theater meet to reconstruct the extraordinary world of the director from Romagna.
The first weekend of the event will conclude BorderlineDanzapresenting a new interpretation of Shakespearean tragedy Romeo and Julietin a co-production between Paesaggi del Corpo and the company of Claudio Malangone. The dancers from Campania transport the well-known love drama into the present world, so much so that if in the archetype the passion of the protagonists was thwarted by feudal constraints, here the social rules imposed by the respective families harness the relationship in changed contemporary categories. In this actualizing light, love becomes one in the eyes of parents challenge youthful and for the two lovers suicide does not concern earthly life, rather it is reduced to their frustrated feeling, to a failure to realize their own freedom.
