Marco Manfrinati, the 40-year-old who killed his father-in-law, Fabio Limido, a 71-year-old geologist, on the street in Varese and slashed his ex-wife, Lavinia Limido, in the face, was on trial for persecutory acts against the 37-year-old and the latter’s mother. This is what emerges in the aftermath of the tragedy that occurred yesterday afternoon, shortly after lunchtime, in via Ciro Menotti, in the Casbeno district of Varese. The man, who is now in prison on charges of murder and serious injury, made use of the right not to answer the investigating judge’s questions during the ritual interrogation.
The stalking trial and the ban on approaching the ex
A law degree and a fair amount of experience as a divorce lawyer. Marco Manfrinati had self-suspended himself from the Busto Arsizio Bar Association before disciplinary proceedings were initiated against him following accusations of stalking, some acts of vandalism had been attributed to him such as slashing car tyres, a smashed rear window and damaging the gate of the Limido house. For these same facts, the 40-year-old had already been sent to trial, with a hearing set for next June. Furthermore, last 19 June, again as part of the trial for persecutory acts, the investigating judge of the Court of Varese had imposed a ban on the man from approaching places frequented by his ex-wife and ex-in-laws.
“These people want to take my breath away”
As - anticipates, the cause of separation between Manfrinati and Lavinia, who is now hospitalized in Varese hospital, it was rather stormy. So much so that she, pushed by her mother and father, was eventually forced to report him for stalking. Hence the judicial process which had eliminated the former lawyer’s chances of being able to meet his little son and, perhaps, the reasons for the blind hatred he had developed towards the entire Limido family. “These want to take my breath away“, he said to those few friends who asked him about his family situation.
Under surveillance in prison
Manfrinati was experiencing a particularly tormented period, burdened by economic problems and, probably, by the desire for revenge against his ex. Acquaintances describe him as a guy habitual and with a high opinion of himself, at least in public. The investigators do not exclude that the 40-year-old could commit self-harm, which is why he is under close monitoring by the prison psychiatrists.
Meanwhile, investigators are hunting for elements that can reconstruct the man’s last movements before the terrible ambush yesterday afternoon.
