Alexander D’Orsogna, CEO of Ancona International Airport: in less than a month we will be able to take off for Athens. And then Paris, London, Sardinia: what summer do you expect from Sanzio?

«A top summer thanks to the doubling of Lufthansa to Munich, the start of the flight to Athens and, at the end of the summer, the route to Barcelona. Furthermore, the continuity flights will also be available in the summer, unlike last year, when they left in October. But we recorded exceptional numbers already in the first quarter: 30% more passenger traffic compared to 2023.”

You had defined 2023 as the year of records: will you be able to do better?

“There are all the conditions to do so.”

Conditions that will also allow us to bypass Perugia airport again? In the record year 2023 they outclassed us.

«I won’t go into the dynamics of competitor airports. But let’s look at the data for the first quarter, we performed better than Perugia and, in percentage terms, also compared to Pescara. Let’s also remember that our business model is totally industrial.”

That is to say?

«We are also a cargo airport, unlike Pescara and Perugia. And in April we grew significantly: the capacity of DHL flights increased by 20%. Then there are other business segments we are working on.”

For example?

«From the development of the aerospace sector, on which we are continuing to work with the CNR, to the implementation of heavy maintenance activities at the airport. And above all, the development of general aviation to bring high-spending traffic segments.”

Where are we at on this latest project?

“We have launched an expression of interest – the deadline for which expires at the end of the month – to identify the partner who will help us develop this activity with broad international appeal.”

What is it about, specifically?

«We are talking about the so-called bleisure traffic: people who come to the Marche for work, but then fall in love with the region and return on holiday with their families. A quality traffic flow that made Milan famous in the past.”

What hopes do we have of seeing new destinations on the Sanzio departure and arrival boards? We were talking about Scandinavia and Germany.

«For the winter season and 2025 our reference targets are Central Europe and Northern Europe».
