Fano, from 24 to 26 May the Sopravènto Festival

In the former church of San Francesco and naval venues, concerts and meetings; the Municipality’s music festival, dedicated to seafaring, is organized by Rebel House with the artistic direction of Colapesce and Dimartino

FANO – In the navy with the term windward everything that is on the side from which the wind blows is identified – referring to the position of the observer – in meteorology this is the part most exposed to the risk of precipitation, in our specific case it is everything that will happen in two days of music and meetings in various maritime and cultural places in Fano of which the main one will be therethe former church of San Francesco, when emotions will take over and each of us will be exposed to the “risk” of relationships: when the sea will dialogue with the historic center, the sailors will be returning and the call of the sirens will be a song.

Rebel House on behalf of the Municipality of Fano reveals the route mapped out for this new event which aims to synthesize the views, feelings and cultures of two worlds apparently very distant from each other, such as that of music and seafaring. And it does so with a new format, a festival divided into three days, with meetings and appointments organized in several daily moments and in characteristic places and contexts. If the fulcrum of the shows will in fact be the open-air monument represented by the former Church of San Francesco, which will host musical concerts for three evenings, various other places in the navy will be the stage for randez-vous between the protagonists of the event and they will dress in party to host the custodians of the maritime tradition, who will dialogue with artists, journalists and politicians, to discuss the theme of the sea and its sociological, historical and cultural value, to which this festival aims to give a heartfelt and renewed dignity. The intention of the event is to cite without being slavish, to honor without rhetoric, to tell by placing emphasis on an accessory theme such as that of seafaring, marginal to the discourses of common colloquialism despite the practice of this profession still being in Fano an important spin-off for the economy and active life of the community. To succeed in this aim, the municipality of Fano, through the organization of Rebel House, will make use of all the professionalism, sensitivity, research and visibility guaranteed by two exceptional artistic directors such as Colapesce and Dimartino who, in addition to being present during the festival days, have curated the musical schedule. Musicians and multi-instrumentalists who in recent years are riding the wave of success and who, with the recent revisitation of the song I Marinai by Ivan Graziani, composed and inspired according to sources by listening to a choir of sailors from our areas, will be able to honor and point the spotlight and the gazes of spectators towards a topic that deserves to be contemplated and rehabilitated also in public discourse. The choice fell on the well-known artistic duo because the sea element has always been never marginal in their poetic narration. Their Sicilian origins also create an important and subtle fil-rouge with what was the enchanting music festival which characterized and was able to bring internationally renowned artists to Fano, the name of “Il Violino e la Selce” when even in that case the artistic direction was entrusted to a Sicilian artist: Franco Battiato. The festival will be accompanied by collective gestures around the city which will be revealed in the next few days and which will also see various associations activated whose aims are in line with the aim of the initiative.

However, the artists who will perform inside the former church of San Francesco for the three evenings at 8.30pm, preceded by voices reciting maritime readings, are already known.

The first evening will be inaugurated by two artists from the Marche region: from 8.30 pm Maria Antonietta and Colombre will perform in a new concert.

On the second evening of the festival, May 25th, they will perform in the presence of the artistic directors Colapesce and Dimartin: Nicolò Carnesi and Any Other.

The final evening of the festival will see the participation of Filippo Graziani in concert, with a musical incursion by Colapesce and Dimartino. A moment in which we will certainly remember Graziani’s father, Ivan, and his song I Marinai, re-edited this year by our artistic directors
