Marco Manfrinati feared no longer being able to see his son until the conclusion of the proceedings against him for stalking against his ex-wife and ex-in-laws.

According to those investigating, this would be the reason that pushed the man to arm himself with a knife and to strike ex-father-in-law dies Fabio Limido e to disfigure his ex-wife Lavinia, underwent emergency surgery at the Circolo Hospital after yesterday’s attack in via Ciro Menotti in Varese, outside the professional studio of the Limido family. The 37-year-old woman suffered serious injuries to her face and a cut to her carotid artery. After several hours in the operating room she was declared out of danger.

The suspension of relationships between father and son is urged in office technical consultancy on parental capacity linked to the cause of separation between Manfrinati and Lavinia Limido. Consultancy which was filed in the Court in Busto Arsizio just four days earlier compared to the massacre that brought the 40-year-old former lawyer to prison, who now has to answer for murder and attempted murder. The judgment that emerged from the document, we learn from the Varese Prosecutor’s Office, triggered yet another violent reaction from Manfrinati towards his ex-wife, threatened with messages that now appear as a premonition of the tragedy.

A tragedy that could and should have been avoided for Marta Criscuolo, mother of Lavinia and wife of Fabio Limido, who ran into the street yesterday shortly after midday to protect his daughter after hearing her scream, and being struck several times in the torso and neck with stab wounds that left him with no escape. Criscuolo, a civil lawyer, was heard this morning by the deputy prosecutor Maria Claudia Contini, and outside the Varese Court she spoke to reporters of the nightmare experienced by his family due to the behavior of Manfrinati, who for the persecutory acts in June 2023 had been banned from approaching his ex-wife and her parents: «The prosecutor had requested the arrest, which was denied – underlines Criscuolo – and the ban of approach was of no use. He should have been arrested first. Many times I said it was dangerous, they told me “stay calm, don’t get excited”.

The measure had been preceded by a similar provision, dating back to 2022when Lavinia Limido still lived in Busto Arsizio and had reported her husband for mistreatment. «The ban on the approach, requested by the prosecutor, was later revoked at the request of the chief prosecutor, who also requested the dismissal for the mistreatment, considering the offended person not credible – says the lawyer Fabio Ambrosetti, who assists the family of Lavinia Limido – If when the stalking was committed in Varese the measure ordered in Busto Arsizio had still been in place, perhaps the precautionary measure for persecutory acts it would have been more severe».

It was precisely the mistreatment that pushed Lavinia to run away from home and to denounce Manfrinati. «My daughter was forced to hide by a friend, outside the province – said Marta Criscuolo – she wore a wig, she had a bodyguard. We have all equipped ourselves with a pepper gun.”

Punctured tyres, punches to Lavinia’s father, insults to her mother (“calling me the t…, the pu….. and the southerner was customary for him”) and almost a dozen complaints filed against Manfrinati, are episodes and attitudes that are part of a tormented relationship, which in 2020 had a new breaking point: «After Covid he lost control over my daughter and the child – recalled Criscuolo – My daughter started working as my husband’s partner in the company, and jealousy and envy in our opinion they have exasperated his attitude.”

Marta Criscuolo’s last words are for her husband, who «he acted as a shield for the family throughout his life, and he also did so with his final gesture”; but they are also about how the circumstances of recent years have affected his role of mother, on the need to protect the daughter: «This and more is done for a child. I would have continued to protect her for twenty years. Nobody bends me.”

Marco Manfrinati, who yesterday at the police station, in front of the prosecutor, made use of the right not to answer, is found in jail in Varese, where this afternoon he will meet his defender, the lawyer Fabrizio Busignani: «Yesterday I had a minimal conversation with him in the security room of the police headquarters – states the lawyer – He was in a state not suitable for making statements, I hope to find him today in a condition that allows us to talk about what happened. For the moment any other declaration would be premature.”
