“The fight against the mafia knows no political colors”

In Irpinia, once known as the “Happy Island”, the shadow of the mafia has loudly shouted its presence. Monteforte And Fifteen they were disbanded for mafia, following in the wake of Pratola Greenhouse, another municipality that has suffered the consequences of this criminal infiltration. Today, the candidate for the European elections Sandro I roll it he came to Avellino to support Antonio Gengaro’s candidacy as mayor of the capital. Ruotolo, known for his commitment against criminal organizations, expressed his vision and commitment to the fight against the mafia. A battle which, now more than ever, must also involve the people of Avellino: “During my mandate as senator, I dealt with Castellammare di Stabia and Torre Annunziata. Two municipalities were dissolved, one with a centre-left orientation and the other with centre-right. Therefore, it is fundamental to understand that the moral question is an ethical issue of primary importance”, declared Ruotolo who, again, underlined how the problem of mafia infiltration is certainly not limited to a single political faction: “If you analyze the data, we note that approximately one third is right-wing, one third left-wing, while the remainder is represented by civic coalitions. It is important to note that no one is immune from this problem.”

The former senator wanted to highlight the commitment of some men like Pio La Torre and Rosario Di Salvo – killed 42 years ago by Cosa Nostra – who, in the name of legality, chose a path of martyrdom: “The left, in its history, can include true heroes, extraordinary men engaged in the fight against the Camorra and the Mafia”. The battle against criminal organizations mainly involves the southern regions, but Ruotolo emphasized that it is a problem that does not only concern the South. The South, however, can boast names who, with their courage, have left an indelible mark in the fight against the mafias: “We must be proud of these individuals, just as we are of figures such as Falcone, Borsellino, Boris Giuliano and the journalists, such as Giancarlo Siani, Pippo Fava and many others, who lost their lives in the fight against the mafia”, concluded Ruotolo, underlining the importance of recognizing and honoring those who sacrifice their lives to fight the evil of the mafia. An evil which, unfortunately, makes its stench strongly felt even in our land.
