The victory achieved in Andora by Jonathan Milan is the first signed in this edition of the Giro d’Italia by an Italian cyclist. For the Friulian sprinter this is his personal encore in the pink race, exactly one year after the seal obtained in 2023 in San Salvo (always on 7 May). Four nations scored in the first four stages of the Giro: Ecuador with Narvaez, Slovenia with Pogacar, Belgium with Merlier and Italy with Milan. The affirmations of our cyclists in the 497 individual stages of the pink race held from 2000 to today become 203 (40.85% of the total)of which 68 were scored in the 251 played from 2012 onwards (27.09%).
Jonathan Milan is the Italian rider with the most victories in the season (4) and he is also the only Italian to have achieved successes in World Tour races so far, 3 also considering those of Giulianova and San Benedetto del Tronto at the Tirreno-Adriatico. The same number as the Dutch Van der Poel and Kooij, the British Williams, the Danish Vingegaard, the Belgian Philipsen and the Australian Welsford. Only Pogacar did better with 8 triumphs and Merlier with 4 in the main competitions of the UCI circuit.
Tadej Pogacar confirmed his lead in the general classification and brought Slovenia’s pink jersey to 12 days in the history of the Giro d’Italia, while Jonathan Milan has regained possession of that cyclamen shirt which in 2023 she had worn for 20 days, taking her to Rome.
