More controversy on the sidelines of the Municipality’s latest sports commission which was held on the topic of municipal swimming pools. After the exchange between the councilor Emiliano Licata of the UDC and the M5S councilor Maria Grazia Ciolfi, the companies ASD Antares Nuoto Latina and Latina Nuoto with their presidents Bruno and Alberico Davoli are now speaking. And the tones are those of those who want to clarify their position in detail. Licata had argued about the opportunity to intervene in that commission of one company compared to the others (the president Davoli had been admitted as an auditor to bend the situation of recent years as a user of the water spaces of the municipal swimming pools) and had written: «From the side of The UDC and the majority of which we are part are firmly convinced that the Administration must ensure compliance with the terms of the concession contract and in addition the commitment to contribute to the drafting of correct regulations for the use of the swimming pools by all, and not just the friendly ones, the Sports Clubs which by evidence of logic and free from electoral banalities can only be applied in the presence of the functioning of both pools”. “We can only thank Dr. Licata for the splendid opportunity and the assistance he gave us with his statements – explain the presidents Bruno and Albercio Davoli – since it also allows us to further clarify the issue as well as clearly highlighting how he evidently has not we have the interests of the citizens and sports families of the ASD at heart who have been subjected to these tasks for years due to the lack of control from the Municipality. We were then invited to explain our problem and were asked to intervene directly by the president of the commission, Avv. Di Matteo. Dr Licata, present in place of another councillor, tried to stop us from speaking but was dissuaded by the President and the Councillor. The session is recorded and public. It should be noted that precisely because these sessions are public, as Antares and Latina Nuoto attended, all the other interested associations could also attend and intervene. These other ASDs, however, were nominated by the President of Antares to underline the fact that it is not just one company that for years has been kept first at a very short timetable and then outside the municipal facility to carry out weekly training sessions for its athletes. Talking about pre-electoral logic regarding ASD Antares or Latina Nuoto by Dr. Licata is incorrect, specious and misleading on the topic as we have brought objective data which, as mentioned, we are ready to demonstrate to substantiate our requests thanks to emails, PEC and so on for the countless requests sent to the manager and the Municipality in recent years. The ASD in question were forced to suffer with their members and teams the mortification of the sporting course and to have to turn to the generous but expensive private facilities outside Latina and the province to satisfy the request for necessary water spaces. We would like to point out to Dr Licata that we only respond to the sporting interests of our members and athletes of national interest, many of whom are minors and with their parents in tow. We are talking about 130 families who for several years have received a pittance of water spaces or, as in 2022/23, were even kept outside the public facility for training sessions which are rightfully theirs: see Art. 5 of the current agreement. In short, a shame in the face of which Dr. Licata should be scandalized and show a very different sensitivity, to protect those citizens who are still treated as sporting minorities marginalized by the city limits. Talking about a commitment on the part of Dr. Licata to “contribute to the drafting of a correct regulation for the use of swimming pools by all ASDs, not just friendly ones” means by chance that he believes that ASD Antares intervened to have it done an ad hoc regulation for the use of municipal swimming pools? And by whom? from the opposition? But does Dr. Licata know that he is in the majority?”.
The two presidents explain that only under the commissioner was there a partial control with registered notes from the Cestra manager to invite the manager to give water space for training to the ASD Antares and Latina Nuoto and to have the matches played for free, as per the Pef certified to the Concession , when on the contrary we were asked for a fee (250 euros per match) which the concession contract did not provide for (there are free charges for the matches). “However, not even the shadow of spaces for weekly training, despite the same notes from the Architect Cestra (3 registered letters from the Manager on the issue) also referred to this issue. So our athletes and the families of minors were forced to emigrate to Anzio and Sermoneta for the entire season”. Therefore ASD Antares is not a political organization and does not make electoral calculations. Antares and Latina Nuoto are interested in having all politicians engaged on a daily basis to resolve the absurd and shameful situation that has dragged on for too long and which has discriminated against Under players of national interest who should be protected by the municipality of Latina and who should have equal space concessions such as the manager’s athletes. Should we perhaps wait for Dr. Licata to list the companies, as he says, free from electoral banalities that can access the plant? He talks about a regulation that can only be active in the presence of the functioning of both pools and which would only concern sports clubs free from electoral calculations. So ASD Antares and the other companies that were present and that are not allowed to enter the public facility will only be able to access when, in 2040? But how can you think in these terms if you don’t even know when the indoor swimming pool, closed in November due to risk of collapse, will be safely restored. And finally, will the manager of the facility, which also has its own competitive clubs, be able to use the public facility Open in June and then with coverage from October? And with what regulation? And what will the other ASD do, emigrate for the umpteenth year to Anzio, Aprilia and Sermoneta?”. “These situations were highlighted to both majority and opposition representatives of the Commission who instead grasped the true spirit of these requests – explain the two presidents – Perhaps it is good that Dr. Licata does not speak without first knowing the sporting history of ASD Antares Swimming and Water Polo and Latina Nuoto and takes action to ensure compliance with the current contract by becoming the promoter, he who is part of the majority, to grant access as established by article 5 to the associations requesting the facility at fair rates and methods agreed with the grantor (Municipality), allowing free water polo matches. Antares and Latina Nuoto have no political color and sport does not and should never have political connotations.”
