Castagnola, below and above, forgotten?

Castagnola, below and above, forgotten? Some residents protest and highlight the dirty streets, with waste abandoned on the pavements, where the street sweeper is now a distant memory. In Via delle Medaglie d’Oro there are sidewalks full of weeds, which restrict pedestrian passage. Not to mention the parks, in complete decay and abandonment. The walking area is a tangle of plants where even dogs struggle to enter. The fountain is submerged by bushes and the waste bin is overflowing with rubbish bags.

Just like the park for the “elderly”, in via Don Minzoni, not far away, it is a jungle of weeds and bushes, where the benches are buried among the weeds. Inside, in Viale Medaglie d’Oro, there is a car park where the bushes exceed one meter in height and the dirt is rampant. It’s true that rude people do their part by leaving waste everywhere but it’s also true that the area deserves more attention and cleaning.

“Public areas – intervenes the city councilor, Daniele Tarantino – must be looked after to allow citizens correct use. Street cleaning must be included in the agenda of the offices in charge, together with cutting grass and hedges. It is not possible to continue to report these inefficiencies and to cultivate citizens’ discontent in the face of the absence and carelessness of the Municipality, which should guarantee decorum and not allow the existing degradation to be fueled. In a clean park, waste is rarely left behind. But where degradation reigns, a rubbish dump quickly grows. The area is in critical conditions precisely due to the lack of planning aimed at maintaining decorum in the city and in the suburbs. I will present a question on this matter, because behind cleanliness comes the message of respect for citizens”.

Castagnola di sopra is an area served by wide roads and surrounded by public parks, surrounded by greenery.

“Parks that people don’t frequent – adds Tarantino – because they are in complete disrepair. Games don’t exist, or if they do they are broken, dangerous. There are no street lights, there are no benches, there are no paths. An idea of the city, an idea of a park and a liveable neighborhood is missing.”
