In Barra, in the eastern area of Naples, a new sports center will be built with a pitch, gym, ice rink and spaces for the very young and elderly. The project, proposed by the company “BD real estate”, is concentrated on an area of 2,500 square meters in via Cupa Bolino and its feasibility has been approved by the council of the Municipality of Naples which has put in black and white the conditions to encourage participation of residents, especially young people, who the private sector will have to host free of charge.

In particular, it is a center for sports equipment which will have a five-a-side football field, a multi-sport gym and an outdoor skating rink as well as a building intended for recreational activities and a senior center. There will be a refreshment point, a green area and free parking for those who frequent the complex which will be built on uncultivated land close to Via Bartolo Longo – a stone’s throw from the Vesuviana station of the same name – applying to become a point of reference for thousands of people. Users will also have access to changing rooms, a sports doctor’s office and a social room which will be housed in the two-storey building.

The urban regeneration will take place from a green perspective by trying to preserve the majority of the permeable surface and to install lots of greenery, especially Mediterranean essences, through which paths and connections are created so as to facilitate accessibility to the property by users, especially people with disabilities. The focus is on energy saving and the need to reduce emissions with an alternative system to produce energy.

The company that proposed the project will have to open the structure to the area of East Naples. The private sector, first of all, has the obligation to make agreements with the elementary, middle and high schools in the area so as to allow students to use the spaces free of charge.

The agreement between Palazzo San Giacomo and the srl also provides for discounts for courses for those in particular economic situations and requests preferential rates, to be agreed with the administration and the Municipality, to include young residents. There is an obligation to allow people with disabilities to use the facility free of charge and to organize sports courses at popular rates from June to August. Furthermore, it undertakes to guarantee free use of the rooms for recreational activities and the senior center to residents of the Barra, Ponticelli and San Giovanni a Teduccio neighborhoods chosen through public notices or suggested by social services.

Not the only urban regeneration proposal by private individuals in the populous neighborhood of Naples East to offer new services to residents. A second project plans to redevelop the space in via Prospero Guidone to create spaces and entertainment points with an eye to eco-sustainability and the environment.
