“Unliveable condominium”. This is how the witnesses defined him in the trial in the assize court in Sassari for the murder of Toni Cozzolino in Olbia on 11 March 2022, who was burned alive by his neighbor and died in hospital after ten days of agony. Furious arguments, constant shouting, shouting, threats: the main person responsible for these tensions, according to a witness called to testify, was Cozzolino himself. In the dock is his neighbor, Davide Iannelli, a 49-year-old of Neapolitan origins.

This is the situation reported in the condominium in via Petta: “Cozzolino disturbed the entire condominium, he was aggressive and had no respect for others and the situation kept getting worse. So much so that in 2021 I had to leave the apartment for about six months and resort to to psychological treatment,” Serena Rais, a neighbor of the accused and the victim, said in court. “I often heard him arguing in the stairwell with Iannelli, who instead, together with his partner, was the only person in that building with whom he could converse.” The witness defined Cozzolino as “a dangerous person”.

“He verbally attacked me several times and also threatened to lead my two daughters aged 15 and 17 astray. He said that they were young and beautiful and that he would lead them astray”, said the woman, also answering questions from the prosecutor, Daniele Rosa and the civil party lawyers, Antonio Foi and Massimo Perra. Next week you will have to testify to the defense’s last witness, who, given his numerous absences, has been forced to be accompanied to the courtroom; then the trial phase will conclude.
