FLORENCE – Teresa Bartoli, Beatrice Covassi, Antonio Mazzeo and Dario Nardella are the ‘Tuscan’ candidates of the Democratic Party who will run in the European elections for the Center constituency, with the Dem secretary Elly Schlein who will be the leader. The candidates were presented today at the headquarters of the Tuscany Democratic Party, in Florence, by the regional secretary Emiliano Fossi. “The party is strong, united, combative, proud of the work it has done and determined to do well – explained Fossi -. At the European Championships the future of Europe and democracies as we have known them to date are at stake. We present ourselves in the best conditions. The work that the Democratic Party will do will be to make a very strong contribution to pushing preferences and support for the candidacy of our secretary. This is because the stronger Schlein comes out of it, the stronger the party’s affirmation will be.” Among the objectives there is also “bringing an adequate representation of Tuscany in Europe”.
According to Covassi (who is standing again) “there are very important points for the Europe of the future: energy, water, new technologies, all of our heritage. I also think of the importance of the Mediterranean, of peace, of dialogue, of the tradition which is at the center of the great challenges of the Europe of the future and also of today due to the crisis we are experiencing in foreign policy”. Bartoli said he made himself available to the Democratic Party “because I believe that there are crucial moments in which we cannot back down. It is a very important vote for Europe and Italy. We must bring a strong Democratic Party to Europe, which builds a more inclusive, more welcoming, more socially attentive Europe. And it is the same reason why in Italy we must strengthen a Democratic Party that stops a right that wants to empty democracy from within, as happened in Hungary. Everyone must do their part.”
