As part of the awareness campaign against scams targeting the elderly, promoted by the General Command of the Carabinieri and planned by the Provincial Command of Rovigo, the soldiers of the Adria Company have started a series of meetings to be carried out in various municipalities in the area of competence (corresponding to Bassopolesine).
During the first meeting, which took place on Sunday 28 April 2024 at the Pettorazza Grimani Civic Center, with the participation of the commander of the local station Lieutenant Marco Gibin, the Carabinieri explained the methods of deception most frequently carried out with concrete examples, while providing recommendations on how to defend yourself and suggestions on what to do immediately. All those present, who showed great interest in the topics, were encouraged to always call 112, to report scam attempts or simply to ask for information, even when they are not directly involved but perceive a situation of potential danger for neighbors or acquaintances.
The meetings will continue throughout the month of Mayn various municipalities in the territory of the Carabinieri Company of Adria, with the collaboration of local administrations and associations, demonstrating the very high attention paid to this phenomenon which sees – as priority victims – the elderly, often residing in rural or otherwise isolated areas. These are social reassurance initiatives, which tend to consolidate the traditional relationship of closeness of the Army to citizens, with particular attention to those who are within the weakest and most defenseless segments of the population”.
“Our hope is that at the end of these meetings, participants become increasingly aware of an important concept: that of ‘participatory security’, useful for preventing crimes and promoting in an increasingly profitable way the indispensable collaboration with those committed to combating them. Feeling protected and living in a safe environment is in fact a fundamental condition, which contributes to raising the quality of life and the level of well-being. Trust in the work of the police forces and the collaboration that citizens give them become fundamental prerequisites for the construction of an efficient communication network that allows us to prevent and contain the most frequent dangerous situations”.
