POZZUOLI – What happened to the defibrillator installed in the Monterusciello cycle path? Was it stolen or taken away for other reasons? These are the questions that arise when we notice the empty box that should house the device, whose electric shock is capable of interrupting cardiac arrest and restoring the normal rhythm. An equipment, therefore, indispensable in a space where many athletes train every day. The signs indicating the presence of the defibrillator were also torn down. The 5 new public access and semi-automatic defibrillators were positioned last year in various points of the municipal area. In addition to the Monterusciello cycle path, where the device is no longer present, other very popular places were chosen such as Corso Terracciano (near the Temple of Neptune); Piazza Italo Balbo (near the newsstand); Pertini seafront (shortly after the basketball court); Via Cicerone (adjacent to the Ronsisvalle pharmacy). Cardiac arrest is a silent killer that in Italy causes between 45 thousand and 60 thousand victims a year. The use of a defibrillator in the first five minutes after cardiac arrest can significantly increase survival and for this reason the presence of these devices is crucial.
